Ocelus’ technology was conceived as the answer for delivery of high molecular weight drugs through the skin. Microneedles and other poration technologies are low pain due to the size of the holes made, but suffer from problems in reproducibility of dose, and can only deliver relatively small quantities of drug, whereas large scale single implants are effective and incorporate controlled release of drug over time, but can be painful in use.
Ocelus’ technology was designed to combine the best of both systems, with small particles being simultaneously injected into the skin at hundreds of sites per square centimetre. These remain in the skin and dissolve rapidly or slowly to release drug.
